Laced-Up, Head to Toe: Alexander Wang Bodysuit + Espadrilles

Funny story about this bodysuit: I tried on this T by Alexander Wang Lace-Up Bodysuit at Neiman Marcus during at shopping trip with my mom, and I completely expected her to clutch her pearls and beseech me to cover myself up for the love of all things holy (although to be fair, my mom isn’t really like that, nor does she wear pearls). But, she absolutely loved it, as did I. It’s sexy, sure, but it’s also sleek and polished and purely feminine, in that now-iconic Wangsian way. And, NBD but it's the same bodysuit Mariah Carey wore in Hawaii over Thanksgiving (an odd choice of outfits for the occasion but hey, get it girl!).
I bought it last fall and it’s come back this season in a few other colors. I’ve seen it in a beautiful, wine-dark red, a soft powder pink and an olive drab. Even though it’s long-sleeved, there’s a lot of open space to work with, so I prefer to wear it in transitional weather, like autumn and spring. It’s shmawesome with a pair of high-waisted jeans, which is how Mariah Carey it, but I also love wearing it with a miniskirt.
On the other end, my lace-up espadrilles are from Anthropologie, but I swapped out the laces with $0.48 ribbon from Michael's – the leather straps it came with cut into my skin and were just plain painful. The ribbon is probably a lot less durable, but at literally less than a half-dollar for a roll of it, I can totally afford to replace them every few uses. I also bought red ribbon, so I may give that a whirl this summer with a sundress.
