The Doen Enya Dress is a Must-Have

There’s something about the Doen Enya Dress that feels like a love letter to long, slow summer days - thing barefoot in the garden, espresso in hand, sun-warmed skin and a perfectly timed breeze.

With its crisp black and white palette and breezy silhouette, it strikes the perfect balance between polished and pastoral. Yes, it has that trad wife energy — all smocked bodice and flutter sleeves — but without the ideology or apron. Instead, it reads more "french girl on a farm sabbatical" than anything else. It’s the kind of dress you could wear barefoot in a field, then throw on sandals and go straight to dinner, looking entirely put together. Which is essentially what I’ve done in it so far - we’ve hit up family garden parties, a stroll at Chanticleer Garden, and I’ve cooked and served two large family dinners in it, with only a grass stain to show for all of that. (Which led to my happy discovery that it is machine washable, something I always want to remember to check before buying clothing, but never do.)

But beyond the aesthetic, the Enya Dress wins serious points for comfort and versatility, making it a true wardrobe here. it’s Doen, so you know the cotton is breathable and the quality is <chef’s kiss>. Pro-tip: size down, although the silhouette is flattering and shows some very skilled tailoring and design via the smocked bodice lined with stretchy seams and a full pleated skirt, it’s still somewhat flowy. I found a size Small fit better and didn’t droop as much as a Medium, which seemed to weigh itself down more. Again, it’s stretchy so there’s some “wiggle room” with sizing.

WHERE TO GET IT:

Net-a-Porter has the most sizes, plus their shipping and packaging is fast and gorgeous. Doen is nearly completely sold out, and Nordstrom is fully sold out, but Saks has quite a few sizes, and a July promo. If you’re an Amex girlie, you get a $50 “allowance” twice a year with Saks, so although the dress isn’t on sale, girl math says: that count’s as a discount.
